About the Cove

Blue Heron Cove is an imaginary island which is a compilation of some of the islands, harbors, waterways and fishing villages which the author has visited or lived near over the past 50 years. It is the setting for her latest book which is still in process. The locations of the books Longing for My Heart’s Desire and The Adventures of Pharaoh the Service Dog are set in the vicinity of Blue Heron Cove. Go to the ‘Meet the Book Characters’ page to be introduced to some of the fictional characters who live in The Olde Fishing Village of Blue Heron Cove.

Coves and inlets can be wonderful places of peace and quiet. Settle on the swing or slip into the gazebo, relax and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. You may see a blue heron stealthily wading through the shallows seeking dinner; you will see patience in practice. Stay alert, keep watch and you may see a fish surface, a turtle sunning on a log or a snake slithering through the grass. Tiny hummingbirds may stop, on their way to the trumpet vines and oleander bushes, to hover right in front of your face. They may even test your clothing if you happen to be wearing red. Relax and stay awhile.

Here in the Village at the Cove, we’ll be exploring ‘Finding Home’. During her youth, while visiting a relative’s cottage in a fishing village for the first time, the author experienced the sensation of having found ‘home’. Throughout her youth, teens and early adulthood, Abigail lived with an overwhelming emptiness in her soul and the sensation that she needed to return to the fishing village, return ‘home’.

Abigial learned that there is an empty spot in each person which can only be filled by a relationship with God, through Jesus. However, the emptiness in her soul caused by the pull to return to the sea and the fishing villages, remained. Finally, when she was in her mid thirties, the author had the opportunity to move to a quaint fishing village. At some point in the future, we’ll learn more about the jagged path that followed.

Meantime, we’ll explore the subject of ‘Finding Home’. What is it? Where does it originate and why? Abigail has met many people whose home town is near the sea, yet the desire of their hearts is to be in the mountains. Others who live in the mountains yearn for the sea. Walk with Abigail and experience the journey.Ripples

  1. I love this so much!!
Did you know that your gravatar doesn’t automatically have your wordpress address attached to it? I finally sat down to read some of the blogs and posts that I wanted to and when I clicked on your pic, it just led me to your gravatar (photo) but not your blog. And your blog is too good for people who don’t know how to add wordpress.com to someone’s name. Just wanted to share that little tidbit that people seem to miss. It just helps you get more traffic.
Your writing is amazing. So glad you found me! Thank you for stopping by!

    • Thank you so much! No, I didn’t know that about my gravatar. I am so new to all of this – even though this blogsite is several years old, but I’m a senior who isn’t up on all of this ~. I am glad to receive any suggestions. Thank you! I’m glad that I found your site too. Keep up the great work!

    • By the way, I would have given your post on your site today 15 stars if I could have! I absolutely love what you shared. How I relate to all of it! I did repost it to fb (Abigail Sands). Have a blessed day!

  2. I love the story, very beautifully written. I am new here and getting to know who is Abigail too. Well I will along the way. I am reading your blog this evening! I could also imagine the Blue Heron Cove and how purely beautiful it is. Since I am an island girl, I have this feeling that it would be an island fresh and cool, and the breeze coming in from the sea with the beautiful beaches and the birds. Ooooh, who don’t want to create this Blue Heron Cove. I wish I was there now.

  3. I didn’t know that longing for the mountains from the sea and the sea from the mountains was a thing. I thought it was just me! I’ve lived near the Atlantic Ocean for most of my life. When I visit my son in the Appalachian Mountains, I feel like I’m coming home. Whenever I see a photo of a village nestled among mountains, I feel I belong there. I’m curious about this experience being more common than I thought.

    • I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains and yearned to live near the water from childhood. All of my friends who grew up near the water yearn all of the time for the mountains, sometimes to the point of being practically heartsick in longing. That’s how I was too. I can’t remember if I told you that is what my little ebook novella is about (Longing for My Heart’s Desire). I’m losing track of who I shared with.

      • No, you didn’t tell me, but I just bought it. 🙂 Maybe it will help me appreciate living by the sea more. I suspect I would miss the ocean if I were away for a long time. I know my husband would.

      • Thank you for purchasing my little book!! It’s based on my childhood yearning for returning to a summer cottage owned by some relatives. Oh how I loved that place. During one week of each year I felt truly alive. The other 51 weeks of the year my heart yearned to be there, hundreds of miles away.

  4. Thank you Abigial for joining up with Freedomborn I will look forward to sharing with you on our Blogs and it’s very True what you shared below with us…..

Abigial learned that there is an empty spot in each person which can only be filled by a relationship with God, through Jesus.

Yes knowing Jesus brings the reality of The Godhead or as we call Them today “The Trinity”, into our Heart.

    • Thank you for following! I checked out your blog. I can certainly relate to the growing older part and looking for my inner spark. My blog came about because of the book I’m writing. The book came about because our dream of creating a little village of shops with a fishing village theme, which never came to pass. So a friend suggested that I create my own village and bring it to life in book form. Thereby a new dream was born.

    • Thank you! I’m just a novice with 2 little amateur e-book novellas on Amazon. Thank you for your blessing and encouragement. My prayer each time I write is for the Holy Spirit to give me the words to say that will hopefully bring encouragement. My prayer is that the end result will be a blessing to readers. Thank you for visiting and for sharing my intro! God bless you!
